Urgent Technical Bullet 051524- Throttle Usage
Please be aware of an important issue regarding 2024 Cyberbike models equipped with the optional throttle. Our motors produce up to 750 watts under maximum load. Recently, our motor manufacturer advised that using the throttle from a standstill could potentially harm the motor. The sudden application of full power may strain the motor, leading to premature wear, damage, or failure.
To mitigate this risk, we recommend using the pedal assist to reach your desired speed for several seconds before engaging the throttle. This approach allows the motor to gradually ramp up to full power, reducing the strain and potential for damage. Additionally, avoid using the throttle alone to climb steep hills, especially in higher gears (the smaller gears on the rear cassette). Unlike internal combustion engines that progressively "rev up," electric motors produce 100% of their torque almost immediately, creating a high load, especially in the higher gears.
We understand this may require an adjustment for some riders, but this practice is crucial to ensure the longevity and performance of your e-bike. We appreciate your attention to this matter. Current and future production units will receive a software upgrade to help prevent strain on the motor.
Please Note:
- Cyberbike electric bicycles are not motorcycles. Overusing the throttle, especially in high gears, can cause excessive strain on the motor, leading to potential damage.
- Always start in lower gears when using the throttle and gradually shift to higher gears as needed.
- Do not start from a dead stop using only the throttle. Use pedal assistance to get moving before engaging the throttle.
- Regularly review our Support Page and service bulleting to stay informed about the latest updates and maintenance tips.
